The Senator was born on May 13, 1977, in Dardanelle, Arkansas, the son of Thomas Leonard “Len” Cotton and Avis (nee Bryant) Cotton, and was baptized Thomas Bryant Cotton, who raised him on their family’s cattle ranch in Yell County, Arkansas.

When Tom Cotton entered high school, he was enrolled at Dardanelle High School, where his towering stature made him an active basketball player and a valuable member of his school’s Sand Lizards team. After high school in 1995, Harvard University was his next stop, where he graduated in 1998 when he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a thesis on The Federalist Papers. In 1999, Senator Cotton enrolled in a master’s program at Claremont Graduate University but gave it up in favor of Havard Law School, which he graduated with a Juris Doctor in 2002.

Like most patriotic Americans, Senator Tom Cotton enlisted as an infantryman in the United States Army in January 2005, and in June of the same year, he was named Second Lieutenant. Lieutenant Tom was assigned as platoon leader for Operation Iraqi Freedom in Baghdad; after his exemplary qualities and the success of the mission, he was promoted to First Lieutenant in December 2006. In 2008, he served in another successful foreign mission in Afghanistan before returning to the U.S. Army Reserve, where he remained until he was discharged in May 2013 with a bronze medal and several badges of honor.
During his military service; he was stationed in Iraq, Tom Cotton gained nationwide publicity after sending a letter to the New York Times and copying Power Line (which later published him). The letter contained his request to prosecute two journalists from the former media house after they spied on the U.S. military and published an article detailing the secret program of then-President George Bush to control the finances of terrorism.
By the time he left the military, Tom was already a household name at home in the U.S. military and had an innate desire to make things right in America. This was probably the reason for his decision to test the political waters to become a United States Congressman.
With the support of the Club for Growth, the Tea Party movement, the blessings of the late John MaCain, the Republican establishment, and the overwhelming confidence of the people of Arkansas, Tom defeated State Senator Gene Jeffress on November 6, 2012, by 59.5% to 36.7% of the vote to become the Republican representative for the 4th District of Arkansas. In his first term, Senator Tom Cotton served on the Financial Services Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives and distinguished himself as a young and vocal member of the House of Representatives who cares about the interests of his people.
From the House of Representatives, Senator Cotton headed for the United States Senate seat to represent Arkansas. He competed against incumbent Mark Pryor, whom he defeated in the general election by 56.5% to 39.5% of the vote, with Senator Marco Rubio, Mitt Romney, Club for Growth PAC, and the majority of voters on his side. The senator was sworn in on January 6, 2015, and has since taken a firm position on many domestic and foreign policy issues, including health care, minimum wage, student loans, Iran sanctions, and many others.
