Olivier Martinez was born on January 12, 1966, in Paris, France, the son of a middle-class family. His father was known in his heyday in Morocco as a professional boxer, while his mother worked as a French secretary. His acting career officially began in 1990, shortly after graduating from CNSAD. Only four years after starting his career in France, he won the prestigious Cesar Prize as “most promising actor” for his outstanding performance in the 1993 film Un, Deux, Trois, Soleil. He was then cast in the 1995 Jean-Paul Rappeneau film entitled The Rider on the Roof (Le Hussard Sur le Toit). This was a film that went into the record books as the most expensive French film at the time (35 million dollars); unfortunately, the film was not as successful as hoped for because it did not catch up with the budget for the production of the film.
After making a name for himself in the French film industry, Olivier Martinez began to gain a foothold in Hollywood. In 2000, he gained slight popularity after starring in the film Before Night Falls alongside Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem.
