Kevin McCarthy took the plunge into politics in 1995 when he became Chairman of the California Young Republicans, Chairman of the Young Republican National Federation from 1999 to 2001, and in early 2000 won his first elected seat as Trustee of the Kern Community College District. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the business was used to guide him through college and graduate school.
