An American politician who is at the forefront of current political discussions in the country, including abortion rights, environment, and climate change, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare), hate crimes, Trump and immigration, and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights, is Kevin McCarthy. Because of his opinion and attitude on some, if not all, of these issues, many Americans don’t like him, and you can understand why.
But you will learn more about the Republican politician here; his background and facts you never knew about the man who has been the majority leader in the House of Representatives since 2014.
Who Is Kevin McCarthy?
Roberta Darlene and Owen McCarthy welcomed Kevin to Bakersfield, California, on January 26, 1965, in a family whose members were Democrats. His grandfather was a rancher, while his father was a firefighter and was promoted to deputy chief of the city fire department. Kevin’s mother, however, was a housewife, and the McCarthys can best be described as a family that promotes the American dream of hard work.
He studied at Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, California, where he graduated in 1983 before enrolling at Bakersfield College in Bakersfield, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1989 and a master’s degree in the same discipline in 1994.
Kevin McCarthy took the plunge into politics in 1995 when he became Chairman of the California Young Republicans, Chairman of the Young Republican National Federation from 1999 to 2001, and in early 2000 won his first elected seat as Trustee of the Kern Community College District. Kevin continued his quest to serve his people, winning the U.S. House of Representatives elections in California for the 22nd District as a Republican and serving from 2007 to 2013, and has continued his term as the representative of the 23rd District from 2014 to the present.
Here are Facts You Need To Know
The story of Kevin’s humble beginnings as a small business owner has brought him to the attention of many people. It is said that at the age of 21 he won $5,000 in the California state lottery. With the prize he set up a sandwich store, which he called Kevin O’s Deli, and ran for some time before selling it in 1987. He recognized the problems that most small businesses face on a daily basis; the hours are long, but margins are low due to the difficult business conditions. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the business was used to guide him through college and graduate school.
Early Political Career
Kevin McCarthy began an internship with Congressman Bill Thomas, who was then Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and later became Thomas’ District Director. In 2006, after Bill’s retirement, Kevin willingly won the convention seat of his former boss.
The Congressman has been married to Judy McCarthy since 1992, with whom he shares two children, Meghan McCarthy (daughter) and Connor McCarthy (son). His relationship with his wife has been going well for years, although there were rumors of an extramarital affair at the time when he was running for Speaker of the House, it was not very valid.
On Becoming President
Owen McCarthy could never become president if his opinions on who should and who should not become president were guided by his views. The representative of the 23rd California Congressional District believes that anyone who wants to become president should first serve as governor. In light of this, and given the fact that he has not served as governor and does not appear to have any plans to run for governor, Kevin has no plans to become president of the United States of America.
Nevertheless, in his capacity of having served the hard-working people of America, the Congressman has done good to his people, to himself, and to the entire American people.
Political office holders in America are often not the wealthiest, with the exception of some who have built chains of successful businesses over the years or come from a family with a wealth of successful businesses.
Congressman Kevin McCarthy is respected and is known for his contributions to the House of Representatives, not for how wealthy he is. We all know that he had a humble beginning. The Congressman’s net worth is said to be between 76,000 and 266,000 dollars. This estimate supposedly makes him the least wealthy of the Grand Old Party (Republican Party) members elected as majority leader in the House of Representatives.
