Charles Sims is an American soccer player who plays the running back position for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Buccaneers as the 69th overall candidate for the third round of the 2014 NFL draft. He completed his college career at the University of Houston and West Virginia University. In his senior year, he was named to the All-Big 12 first team and won the 2013 Big 12 Newcomer Offensive Player of the Year. The star of the Buccaneers was born on September 19, 1990, as Charles Edwards Sims in Houston, Texas. Sims was born to African-American parents, his mother is named Dinette Oliver. Not much is known about his father as he was raised by his mother. He grew up in the neighborhood of Westbury, where he attended Westbury High School. Sims was a two-sport star during his high school years; he played soccer and also took part in athletics events. He has American citizenship and is of African-American descent.

During his time at Westbury High School, Sims played as a running back for the school soccer team. He won the District 21-4A MVP and was appointed to the All-District First Team during his junior year. He scored a total of 17 touchdowns, 37 receptions, and 1,018 rush yards for the school team. At the end of his high school career, he was ranked as a three-star athlete by Rival.com and ranked 74th in the best running-back prospects in his class.

After graduating, Sims enrolled at the University of Houston, where he played college football from 2009 to 2012. In his freshman year, he was named Conference USA Freshman of the Year after scoring nine touchdowns and 698 stormy yards. The following year, he was retired so he could focus on his academic accomplishments.

Upon his return to the team in 2011, he was named the USA’s first all-conference team after scoring nine touchdowns, 110 carries, and 821 rush yards. In his last season in Houston, Sims had 11 touchdowns, 142 carries, and 851 yards. He was named to the second team of the All-Conference USA and also won the Andre Ware Offensive MVP.

In his last year, he transferred to West Virginia University. There he was named “All-Big 12” and honored with the award “Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year”. Sims scored 11 touchdowns, caught 4 passes for 401 yards, 208 carries, and 1,095 rushing yards. At the end of the season, Charles Sims was listed in the 2014 NFL draft under the Running Back Perspectives.

NFL Career and Stats

During the 2014 NFL draft, Charles Sims was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the 69th in the draft’s overall selection. He joined the Buccaneers in the 2014 season and had his first professional appearance against Atlanta on September 11, 2014. He scored his first professional touchdown against New Orleans in December 2014. At the end of the season, the Sims played 8 games; he had 19 receptions for 190 receptions. He also made 66 Carries for 185 Rush Yards.

The following year he played 16 games, 4 with touchdowns, 51 receptions, 107 carries for 529 rush yards, and 561 receiving yards. With 561 receiver yards, he was the fourth running back player in the history of the franchise system to score such yards in a single season. In 2016, Charles Sims was afflicted with a knee injury that caused him to miss most of the season’s games. By the end of the season, he had 24 receptions, one touchdown, 51 carries for 149 stormy yards in 7 games.

In the 2017 season he played all 16 games for the Buccaneers and ended the season with 35 receptions, 21 carries for 95 rushing yards, 249 receiving yards, and a touchdown. In April 2018 Sims signed a one-year contract extension with the Buccaneers. We hope that the 2018 season will be a breakout season for the fast running back.

Charles Sims is very hard-working, sets a good example, and has speed and explosive one-cut abilities. His soft hands are a good technique that helps him catch the ball away from the body. He has a good height, wonderful body measurements, and a loose lower body with a nice ankle bend to cut sharply. Sims stands at a height of 6 feet, weighs 214 pounds and has an arm length of 31 inches; and a hand size of 8ΒΌ inches. He also has black hair and brown eyes.
