Buster Posey has played in various positions since the beginning of his baseball career in high school. The right-handed batter and pitcher plays for the San Francisco Giants primarily as a catcher. The Giants voted him fifth pick overall in the 2008 MLB draft and made his Major League debut a year later.
He has spent his entire professional career to date with the San Francisco Giants. Buster was named All-Star Game every year from 2012 to 2017, with the exception of 2014. Growing up, like many other children his age, Buster Posey was active in other sports besides baseball. He played soccer, basketball, and football. At Lee County High School, he played as a shortstop and pitcher, hit seven home runs, nine doubles, and three triples, and set a school record of 0.544 and 46 RBIs in his teenage years. After scoring 14 home runs and a 12-0 victory as a pitcher with 108 strikeouts in his senior season, he was named Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year, EA Sports All-American, and many other titles.
Fourth in his class of 302 students and with a grade point average of 3.92, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 2005 MLB Draft but chose college instead.
At Florida State University, Posey was named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American after finishing his freshman year with 4 home runs and 48 RBIs with a batting average of 0.346. In his second year, he was promoted from shortstop to catcher. In his junior year, he won the Johnny Bench Award, the Dick Howser Trophy, and the Golden Spikes Award for his outstanding performance.

Professional Baseball Career
After his selection by the Giants, Posey signed a contract with a hefty $6.2 million franchise-high sign-on bonus. Buster spent time at the San Jose Giants of Minor League Baseball where he played 80 appearances and hit 13 home runs, 58 RBIs with a batting average of 0.326. Next, he recorded five home runs, 28 RBIs, and a batting average of 321 for the Fresno Grizzlies on 35 missions.
Buster Posey’s debut in the Major League on September 11, 2009, saw him hit his first at-bat and his first Major League goal eight days later.
On June 9, 2010, Posey scored the first home run of his career in a game against the Cincinnati Reds, and later became the Giants’ starter at the end of the month. Buster Posey’s RBI record on May 28, 2016, against the Colorado Rockies, became the catcher of the Giants with the second-most RBIs in a single game. He also scored his 1000th goal in his career against the same team on September 27. He ended the season with 14 home runs, 80 RBIs, a batting average of 0.288, and the Golden Glove Award. Posey also made it to his fourth all-star game.
