Anthony Rizzo, born on August 8, 1989, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, is the son of John and Laurie Rizzo. He attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, which he graduated from in 2007.
Anthony Rizzo’s baseball career began at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, where he eventually rose to the sixth draft round at the Boston Red Sox in 2007. He was initially recruited to transfer to Florida Atlantic University before joining the Boston Red Sox.
In December 2010 Anthony Rizzo, Casey Kelly, Reymond Fuentes, and Eric Patterson joined the San Diego Padres. Two years later, in January 2012, he was on his way to the Chicago Cubs where his performances earned him hero status.
The Rizzos are Christian believers and have their ethnicity as Italo-Americans. The family’s origins can be traced back to the Sicilian town of Ciminna in Italy. It is said that the family has a penchant for helping the society, this is an important trait of Anthony Rizzo himself.

Earlier in his life, Anthony Rizzo was diagnosed with limited classic Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This was in April 2008 and after the diagnosis, Rizzo had to undergo chemotherapy for six months. On September 2, 2008, Rizzo’s doctor told him that he was in remission, and at that time he still had about six weeks of treatment and some follow-up examinations ahead of him. Surprisingly, at the same time that Anthony was fighting cancer, his grandmother got breast cancer.
In 2010, the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation was established and is run by Rizzo’s family and his management team. The Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support cancer research and also to help support families fighting the disease.
