Era Istrefi is an Albanian-Kosovar singer/songwriter born on July 4, 1995, in a music-loving family in Pristina in former Yugoslavia. Era Istrefi followed in the footsteps of her mother, who was a singer in the 1980s and 1990s, and her popular older sister Nora Istrefi, who is also a famous singer. She became a star in her native Kosovo after the release of her debut single Mani per money in 2013. Her fame continued to grow locally as she released other successful songs such as Apo do, 13, E dehun, and many more.
At the end of 2015, she dropped another single BonBon, which gained international recognition. The video of the song immediately went viral and reached over 500 million hits on YouTube. The song received so much approval from other countries around the world that she had to make an English version of the song, and it made people compare her to other popular female celebrities such as Australian sensation Sia and Barbadian icon Rihanna.
In early 2016 she signed with the popular labels Sony music entertainment and Ultra music. In June 2016, she released the English version of BonBon under these labels, followed by other singles such as Redrum, No I love you, which she released in collaboration with French Montana. It was officially announced that her upcoming album will be recorded in collaboration with RCA Records.

In 2014, back in her native Kosovo, she received great reviews for her music video E Duhun, which was shot in an abandoned church in Kristina called Church of Christ the Savior. She was accused of being blasphemous and acting demonic for dancing half-naked in and around the church.
The talented young artist is one of the few female artists commissioned to create the official song for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia 2018. Other artists involved include Nicky Jam, music producer Diplo and legendary actor Will Smith. The official World Cup theme song, Live It Up, was released on 25 May 2018.

Era Istrefi is a duel nationalist of both Kosovo and Albania. She was born in Pristina, Kosovo, the daughter of the late filmmaker and journalist Nezir Istrefi and the retired singer Susana Tahirsylaj. Era grew up together with her three other siblings Nora Istrefi, Nita Istrefi (both girls), and her brother Bledi Istrefi. Her father died in 2004 when she was only 10 years old. Suzana Tahirsylaj had to choose between a career as a singer and caring for her children, and she decided to move her career as an entertainer to other areas to be there for her children.
