David Packouz is an ex-convict convicted of illegal arms trafficking in the United States of America in 2011. At the very young age of about 23, Packouz tried his hand at the world of arms trafficking, which seemed to be reserved for the older and obviously more experienced hands. His younger friend, Efraim Diveroli, who was only 20 years old at the time, invited him to join his company AEY Incorporated, a company interested in supplying weapons and ammunition to war-torn parts of the world. And despite their young age, the duo was able to win mega-orders from the U.S. government to supply weapons for the war in Afghanistan under the administration of George W. Bush. Their achievements (which included securing federal arms contracts worth about $300 million) have shocked the entire US arms trade industry. Their successes and failures will be further discussed.
David Packouz was born David Mordechai Packouz on February 16, 1982, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of a Jewish family. His father, Kalman Packouz, is a Jewish Rabbi and his mother is Shoshana Packouz. He has eight brothers and sisters and nothing is said about them. Although Packouz is of Jewish descent, he also has an American nationality and his ethnicity is white. There is no information about the high school he attended, except that he met his friend and future business partner Efraim Diveroli in high school. He is said to have attended college at the University of Florida, Gainesville, in 2002 and Miami Dade College in 2003. Packouz is a licensed masseur and currently works as a music producer and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Singular Sound Company.

Relationship With Efraim Diveroli, AEY Company
Efraim Diveroli is a school friend of David Packouz and the founder and president of AEY Incorporated, a company of which Packouz is vice president. The company deals in arms and is run by Diveroli, who merged with Packouz in 2005 and offered him to become part of his company – an offer that Packouz could not resist at the time. Their joint venture was largely successful, and within a year of their merger, the company had won 149 major contracts, mostly federal contracts worth more than $10 million. In 2007, after AEY Incorporated secured a $298 million federal contract from the U.S. government to supply weapons to the U.S. Allied Forces in Afghanistan, including missiles, million rounds of SVD Dragunov sniper rifles, 100 million rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and all types of ammunition, AEY Incorporated decided to defraud the U.S. government by buying the said ammunition from China, a restricted area for weapons and ammunition to the U.S., contrary to the contract signed between the company and the Pentagon. The company intended to cover up the origin of the ammunition – which was inferior and of low quality – by repackaging and renaming the ammunition, and Packouz was privy to this agreement.
When the fraud was uncovered by the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform of the United States House of Representatives, it led to a review of the processes involved in the award of arms contracts by the US Army to arms dealers. It also triggered a series of lawsuits against AEY Incorporated and eventually led to the indictment and conviction of both business partners in 2011. While Diveroli was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment, Packouz was sentenced to 7 months of house arrest for his involvement in the conspiracy.
After its outbreak, this story not only attracted huge media coverage but also became the plot of the 2016 film War Dogs. The comedy/drama film directed by Todd Phillips also featured David Packouz, but not as himself, but as a guitarist and singer in a nursing home. His ordeal with the AEY Company never destroyed his innovative spirit, as he founded his own music company Singular Sound, which he now runs. He also invented BeatBuddy – a drum machine that can be controlled by a guitar pedal, while he is also a partner in the “Guitars Over Guns” initiative to reach young people who are less privileged.

Talking about David Packouz’s girlfriend seems to have become inevitable since his screen character in the movie War Dogs had a girlfriend named Iz with whom he had a child in the movie. In real life, however, even though he and his friend Diveroli celebrated a lot when things were going well with the arms trade, there is no report that Packouz had or kept a girlfriend at any point in time.
