Carl Edwards Biography

The former race car driver was born on August 15, 1979, in Columbia, Missouri, as Carl Michael Edwards II. He grew up here in Missouri, and for his education, Carl attended Rock Bridge High School, which he graduated in 1997. From here he transferred to the University of Missouri to study engineering.

It didn’t take too long at the university before he realized that it didn’t help him, because what he wanted was to become a race driver. In fact, he had loved the sport since childhood, and that made him think that everyone else knew a lot or at least something about racing.

His journey to become a racing driver began when he was only 4 years old when his father, Carl Edwards Sr., built a go-kart for him. This had kept him on wheels until he was an adult. Even when he was in high school, he continued to drive and work on his car, and on weekends he raced with his father.

When he was 15 years old, he decided to try Godfrey, III, with a fake ID because the event was only open to 16-year-olds before you could enter the pits and you had to be 18 years old to be allowed to drive.

Carl Edwards was able to obtain up to $34,000 from his mother, Nancy Sterling, to finance the US Auto Club’s Silver Crown race track in which he participated. In 2002, he already participated in NASCAR when he drove in the Craftsman Truck Series for the then combative MB Motorsports.

That year he was awarded the NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year. This happened after the racer was named “NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Rookie of the Year 2003”.

The coming years would be great for him, as he would become champion of the NASCAR Busch Series in 2007 and win the prelude to the dream the same year. He also won the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race (2011), 2015 Coca-Cola 600 (2015), and the Southern 500 of the Bojangles (2015).

After enjoying a wonderful career in the fast lane, Edwards ended his career with the game when he retired in 2017 after winning 28 cups. Many people did not understand why he retired at the age of 37 when he was in his prime, but according to him, he had to stick to what his courage told him.

Net Worth

The Missouri-born former racing driver is said to have estimated net assets of over 50 million dollars. He earned his money both from his earnings as a racing driver and from his winnings. What’s more, he enjoyed some sponsorship deals even when he was listed by Forbes as one of the highest-paid NASCAR drivers in 2016.

Before she got together with Katherine Downey and married her, the NASCAR star was once with Olympic swimmer and gold medalist Amanda Beard. Their relationship began in 2005, and before the end of 2006 they had all broken up with her.

According to Amanda in her memoirs, the relationship couldn’t survive because Carl only cared about himself and he never considered her in any way or the things she might want. Shortly after they ended it, Amanda Beard, who married Sacha Brown, said that she had severed all ties with Carl.

The former professional stock-car racer seems to enjoy a pretty good relationship with his wife Katherine Downey, with whom he has two children, Anne Edwards, and Michael Edwards.
