Alvin Mentian Kamara was born on July 25, 1995, in Norcross Georgia. The mother is Liberian, Kamara has African-American roots. He went to school at Norcross High School, where he studied soccer.

When he played for the Norcross High Blue Devils soccer team, Kamara had 1,300 rushing yards with 17 touchdowns in his junior years. As spectacular as this performance seemed, the talented youngster surpassed it in his senior year when he scored 26 touchdowns over 2,264 yards, with another 22 receptions over 286 yards and 5 touchdowns. His performance in the final year of school helped the school to its first national championship. Among numerous awards, Alvin Kamara won the Georgia Mr. Football and 6A Player of the Year awards. He also received the first team’s All-State Awards and was nominated in 2013 Under Armour All-America Game.

By the end of his high school years, Kamara was ranked among the best running back prospects in the 2013 class and also received offers from numerous prestigious college football programs. He originally signed up at the University of Alabama but had an unpleasant one-year engagement at the Alabama Crimson Tide, which was affected by a pre-season injury and a several-week suspension for “behavioral problems.

Alvin Kamara transferred to Hutchinson Community College in Kansas in 2014 as a redshirt rookie. He also had a one-year internship with the Hutchinson Blue Dragons, during which he ran for 1,211 yards with 18 touchdowns in 9 events. After a brilliant season with the Dragons, Kamara moved to the University of Tennessee in 2015, where he spent the last two years of his college career.

Alvin Kamara wore the red jersey in all 13 games of his second season (2015). He shared backfield duties with Jalen Hurd and John Kelly, scoring 698 yards and 7 touchdowns and 291 receiving yards with 34 receptions and 3 touchdowns. He also had 8 point returns for 100 point return yards with one touchdown. As Red Shirt Junior he was limited to 11 games in the 2016 season, scoring 596 rushing yards with 9 touchdowns and 40 receptions for 392 yards, and 4 receive yards with touchdowns. In December 2016, Alvin Kamara declared for the NFL Draft 2017, relinquishing his redheaded senior season.

NFL Career

Alvin Kamara has been selected by the New Orleans Saints as the 67th general draft choice in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft. For his rookie season, Kamara was selected to share the backfield with Saints veteran Mark Ingram. He made his NFL debut on September 11, 2017, at the Saints’ season opener against the Minnesota Vikings, which also marked the beginning of an outstanding rookie season for the talented running back. He made history as the first player in three decades to run up and receive yards in the first 11 games of his career, 500 yards in the first 11 games of his career.

In December 2017, Kamara was named to the 2017 Pro Bowl alongside teammate Mark Ingram, and the duo made history as the first running back duo from the same team to receive the honor. Kamara and Ingram also ended the season as the first running back duo to set the record of 1,500 meters of scrimmage in a single season. Alvin Kamara finished the season with 728 storming yards (third among the newcomers), 826 receiving yards (first among the running backs), and 81 receptions (first among the newcomers and second among all running backs). His impressive stats earned him the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award, and he was also named to the NFL All-Rookie Team.

Alvin Kamara grew up in an American-Liberian household. His mother, Adama Kamara, was born in Liberia but fled to the United States after the First Liberian civil war. There is little information about Alvin’s father. He grew up with an older sister named Garmai K. Momolu.

Like the NFL star, Alvin Kamara’s uncle Kevin “Coach K” Lee is a former college basketball player. Coach K. Lee is now a music manager who has managed music acts like Gucci Mane and Migos and served Kamara as a manager under the sports management branch of his label.
