Why did Jennifer Esposito leave NCIS and Blue Bloods?

When Esposito left Blue Bloods in 2012, CBS told fans that the actress had informed the network that she would only be available for very limited part-time work and that as a result, she would not be able to fulfill the requirements of her role, so they had to give her character a leave of absence.

This was now her version of the story, the actress would later tell her own side of the story on Twitter, Esposito blew and accused the network of sending her on unpaid leave and preventing her from working further. According to her, she had struggled with celiac disease and collapsed on the set. Her doctor said she needed “a reduced schedule” because of her condition, but the network did not listen to her doctor, but rather indicated that she was not really sick, but only pretended to get a raise.

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease caused by a reaction to wheat proteins. It affects the small intestine and its symptoms include fatigue and the person affected must eat a gluten-free diet. In addition, in 2013 Jennifer Esposito opened a bakery in Manhattan’s West Village called Jennifer’s Way, which offers only coeliac-free food. She also established the Jennifer’s Way Foundation for Celiac Education with the goal of bringing this debilitating autoimmune disease into the spotlight. In 2015, she became a brand ambassador for Eclair Naturals- a gluten-free, GMO-free, vegan body and skincare line available in all Rite Aid stores across the country.

The following year (2016), she joined the NCIS cast as Special Agent Alexandra “Alex”. But Quinn had to leave after twenty-four episodes. This time her reason for leaving the show was different, she was simply looking for other career opportunities. Talking to Deadline about her departure, Esposito said that she couldn’t have wished for a better opportunity than to work with the cast and producers of NCIS.

Where is she now?

She may no longer be at NCIS, but the actress is certainly not out of the acting profession. Shortly after she left NCIS, Jennifer got a co-starring role in the feature film Speed Kills.
