American political strategist, media manager, banker, and filmmaker Stephen Kelvin Bannon, popularly known as Steve Bannon, was born in Norfolk, Virginia, United States of America, on November 27, 1953. He was born the son of Irish Catholic parents Martin Jr. and Doris Bannon; his father Martin worked as a telephone operator and later as a temporary manager while his mother was a housewife.

Steve Bannon attended the Benedictine College Preparatory, an all-male Catholic private military school, and graduated in 1971. He was then admitted to the prestigious Virginia Tech College of Agriculture and Urban Studies to study urban affairs and planning. During his school years, Bannon was always politically inclined, which led him to run for the office of student government president, which he won. He graduated with a B.A. in Urban Affairs and Planning in 1976.

Upon graduation, Steve Bannon joined the U.S. Navy and served as Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations at the U.S. Department of Defense’s headquarters at the Pentagon. Although still serving in the Navy in Washington, D.C., Bannon earned a master’s degree in National Security Studies from Georgetown University in 1983. His education there not only ended as it did in 1985, but he also earned a master’s degree in business administration (specializing in media and entertainment) from the prestigious Harvard Business School.

If one follows the chronological sequence of his career, one finds that Steve Bannon began his career after his military service in the U.S. Navy. It began between 1973 and 1980 when he served as an officer in the surface warfare and assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon and was even deployed to support Operation Eagle Claw during the Iran crisis, before resigning as a lieutenant in 1980.

Bannon later secured a position as an investment banker with Goldman Sachs in the Mergers and Acquisition Unit but eventually left Goldman Sachs as Vice President after helping the company expand in the entertainment business. In 1990, Steven Bannon founded Bannon & Co, an investment bank focused exclusively on media and entertainment. This paved the way for his filmmaking career with The Indian Runner, his first executive producer.

In 1999, he was co-executive producer of the film Titus, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus.
