Vanessa Marcil has been active in the film world since 1992, the year in which she became famous with the role of Brenda Barrett Corinthos in the ABC soap opera General Hospital, which would eventually become the biggest breakthrough in her career.

Vanessa was born Sally Vanessa Ortiz on October 15, 1968, in Indio, California, United States of America. She was born as the youngest of 4 children of herbalist Patricia Marcil Ortiz and contractor Peter Ortiz. Her mother Patricia is of French, Italian, and Portuguese descent, while her father is of Mexican descent.
Vanessa has two older sisters Tina (born October 20, 1959) and Sherry (born September 7, 1962), and an older brother Sam (born November 16, 1958). They all grew up together in Palm Desert.
Marcil’s love for acting began to develop when she was 8 years old. She began acting in school plays and talent shows, one of which she won in the 6th grade with her own song.
Marcil attended Indio High School in Indio, California, where she was a member of Indio’s Circle Theatre Acting Company. Interestingly, while pursuing her acting passion, Marcil studied law at the College of the Desert, Palm Desert, California.

After a series of appearances in theater productions, Marcil was offered the role of Brenda Barrett at the General Hospital in 1992. She played the role again for the next 6 years until she went on to other appearances in 1998, including the television movie To Love, Honor and Deceive, and Steven Spielberg’s police drama High Incident.
During her time at GH, Marcil also made other efforts, including appearances in two music videos by Prince and her feature film debut in The Rock (1996) alongside stars such as Nicolas Cage.
Vanessa joined the cast of Beverly Hills, 90210 as Gina Kincaid in 1998. A year and a half later, she left the band for further performances before returning to GH in 2002. Marcil left GH for the second time in 2003 when she joined the NBC drama Las Vegas as Sam Marquez. She resumed the role for 5 seasons and left GH in 2008, and Marcil again played the role in a related show called “Crossing Jordan” (2004 – 2005).

It looked as if the miscarriages were taking their toll on their marriage when they filed for divorce in August 2012, citing irreconcilable differences. Vanessa and Carmine finalized their divorce in March 2013.
Her Son
After her first divorce from Corey Feldman and before her second marriage to Carmine Giovinazzo, Vanessa was in a romantic relationship with her former acting colleague Brian Austin Green from 90210, Beverly Hills. This relationship produced a son, Kassius Lijah, who was born on 30 March 2002.
Vanessa and Brian separated shortly after the birth of their son, much to the surprise of Beverly Hills fans, 90210.
Their separation became chaotic when Brian filed a lawsuit against Marcil claiming that she was in default of payment on a loan he had lent her. Marcil denied the allegations, however, and the court dismissed the suit in Marcil’s favor. Brian married Megan Fox later in 2010.
