Timothy, whose full name is Timothy David Olyphant, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to J.V. Bevan, father, and Katherine Olyphant, mother. His father was Vice President of Production at Gallo Winery during his more active years. He has two siblings, an older brother named Andrew and a younger brother named Mathew.

At the tender age of two, his family moved to Modesto, California, where he spent much of his childhood, but they later separated due to divorce when Timothy was a teenager. In his family, he comes from a lineage that includes all English, German, Dutch, Irish, Jewish, Scottish, and Russian descent.

He attended the Fred C. Beyer High School in Modesto, and as a small child, he enjoyed art and drawing but detested acting because he was ashamed of it. Timothy also had a fondness for water sports as he competed in various swimming competitions as a child. Because of his swimming skills, he became a finalist in the 1986 National Swimming Competition over 200m individual medley, which prompted USC Trojan swimming coach Peter Daland to ask about him, and he was subsequently recruited by the University of Southern California, where he studied fine arts.

He graduated in 1990 and moved to New York to consider other career opportunities in addition to his work as a swimming coach with Irvine Novaquatics and as a commercial artist. He started with stand-up comedy and after a while decided to do so with more commitment. After he got it into his head to do stand-up comedy and actually did it well, he fell in love with acting and started to consider it as a possible career path. To encourage this, Timothy Olyphant enrolled in a two-year acting course at New York’s William Esper Studio, for the continuation of which he began auditioning for roles.

He got his first paid acting job in 1995 in a WB television pilot on Sunset Strip 77 and later that year he was in the cast of The Monogamist, which became his first professional off-Broadway appearance. From 1995 until today he continued to work on other films and television series. Not a year went by without him working on a film, play, or television series.

For his hard work and exceptional talent in the visual entertainment industry, he has received numerous awards and has several honors to his credit. These include – 1996 Theatre World Award for Outstanding Debut Performance in The Monogamist, in 2000 he won the Young Hollywood Award in the category Best Bad Boy for his role in the project Go. Timothy won the satellite award for Best Actor in a Series, Drama, for his role in Justified in 2011, for which he had the most nominations, while in the not-so-distant year 2016 he won the 6th Critics’ Choice Television Awards 2016 for Best Guest Actor in a comedy series entitled The Grinder.

He married his college girlfriend Alexis Knief at the age of 23 in a private wedding ceremony attended only by her loved ones in July 1991.
