Lately, it’s not so bad if you work in the media as a gay person, but a few decades ago, when Andy Cohen started working in the media, things were different. Although he came out to his friends and family, he held back at work because his colleagues kept mocking and beating up gays. Once he had the courage to tell people at work, there was no turning back for Andy.

He went on to become the youngest openly gay producer hired by CBS News at the time. After working in the entertainment industry for several decades and winning several prestigious awards, including an Emmy, Andy Cohen sees himself as one of the positive role models that young guys can look up to in the media.

Who exactly is Andy Cohen?

Born on June 2, 1968, in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A., Andy grew up with a sister and was raised by his parents. He attended Clayton High School and then went to Boston University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. His career in the media began as an intern at CBS News, which hired him a year later. He worked with the station for ten years and rose to senior producer of 48 Hours, The Early Show and CBS This Morning.

In 2000 he joined Trio and in 2004, after Trio was bought out by Bravo, he was appointed Vice President of the original programming at Bravo. Andy is also a best-selling New York Times author who has written several books and memoirs that have been well received. Between 2011 and 2013, he hosted several beauty pageants, including Miss USA and Miss Universe. He is known as executive producer of several award-winning shows such as Top Chef and The Real Housewives Franchise. He is also the host of Watch What Happens Life, Andy Cohen Live and Love Connection.

In addition to his journalistic career, Andy is a gay icon in the media and a staunch supporter and activist of various gay rights and laws. With a robust career as a talk show host, radio host, producer, and author, Andy has won several prestigious awards, including two Peabody Awards in 2004 and 2007, an Emmy Award 2010 and a Vito Russo Award 2019.

Does he now have a gay partner?

According to Andy, he is currently seeing no one. In December 2018 he announced that he was expecting his first child through surrogacy and that his son, Benjamin Allen Cohen, was born on February 4, 2019. He is focused on raising his son as a single parent but is open to being with someone who is willing to commit to a life of co-parenting.

Andy Cohen’s previous relationships

Andy has admitted that while it’s a good thing that the New York Senate finally decided to vote to legalize same-sex marriage, he is ‘crazy’ that it took so long to get it passed. He believed that things would have gone differently if this option had been available when he had just left college. He admits that he probably would have been married by now.

Andy, who has been in the news over the years for his romantic involvement with several boys, has admitted that some of the stories are not true. One of the few confirmed relationships Andy Cohen has had openly is with Clifton Dassuncao, who is an environmental health scientist and epidemiologist. He’s also a Harvard Ph.D.

They met on Barry Diller’s $150 million yachts and fell in love. Things seemed to be getting pretty serious between them, with Andy hinting at marriage before their relationship ended abruptly. The relationship lasted two years (2016- 2018) and it is not known what led to their separation.

What is his relationship with Anderson Cooper?

Another popular person that Andy Cohen has been associated with is Anderson Cooper. The two met in the early ’90s when they were on a blind date. Although the date never took place after they talked on the phone, they became best friends and even made their own speech tour “AC2″: An Intimate Evening with Anderson Cooper & Andy Cohen – Deep Talk and Shallow Tales”.

Year after year they have performed in several cities in sold-out theatres. While some people continue to nudge their best friends in the direction of a romantic relationship, it seems that it may never happen, as Andy has stated that they have been best friends for more than 25 years and have shown love and respect for each other.
