For most people, there were only two categories of players in the National Football League: those who would be remembered long after they retired, and those who are destined to fight throughout their careers against slipping into oblivion but ultimately accept the inevitable. Tarik Cohen has yet to reach the heights that would earn him a place in the first group of players, but he has definitely shown that he would not go down as one of the latter.
This ‘running back’ player had an incredible college career that earned him the attention of prominent teams when he wanted to join the National Football League (NFL). If you look at his records, you’ll find that teams like the Denver Broncos, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Green Bay Packers, and the New York Jets were just a few of those who showed interest in him.
Eventually, he was drafted by the Chicago Bears during the NFL Draft as the 119th overall candidate in the fourth round by the Chicago Bears. Since then he has proven his worth with the Bears. In the 2017 season, he was, among other things, the only NFL rookie in recent history to score touchdowns in a single season, not only through passes and punt-returns but also through grass and reception. The last time a player (Gale Sayers) managed this feat was in 1965.
Interestingly, he was also celebrated for being the shortest player to throw a touchdown pass since 1934, and for having the longest reception of his team. Tarik was so good that he played in every game of the season. Read on to learn more about his biography, his parents, his career, and his body measurements.
Bio and Career Attainments
Tarik Cohen was born on July 26, 1995, and his birthplace was in Bunn, North Carolina. He was a student at Bunn High School, where he first showed that he was athletically inclined. Cohen not only performed exceptionally well in football but also in athletics, where he became a member of the North Carolina High School Athletics Association for the 4×100-meter relay.
When he played soccer with the school, he was named MVP of his team and included in the All-Conference selection. Although Tarik Cohen was a fantastic playmaker in high school, he only received a scholarship offer from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. That’s because other schools felt that his size was not ideal for the game. But Cohen had to dispel great doubts. He accepted the offer from North Carolina A&T, became a member of the Aggies football team, and immediately won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Year award. This was just the beginning as he received other prestigious awards.
From 2013 to 2015, he was successively listed on the All-MEAC First Team and from 2014 to 2016 he was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Year. He has also crowned MEAC All-time leading Rusher in 2016. That year he also received the Deacon Jones Trophy, awarded under the Walter Camp FCS All-American and the AFCA FCS Coaches Second Team All-American. In 2015, Tarik won the Black College Football National Championship, was named Celebration Bowl Offensive MVP of the Year, SBN/Doug Williams Offensive Player of the Year, and much more.
Tarik Cohen’s career starts in the NFL from 2017 include 4 touchdowns, 53 receptions, 87 rushes, 353 receptions, 370 rushes, and 855 returns.
Tarik Cohen’s Height, Weight, and Body Stats
Despite the fact that this “running back” player has kept up with his performance, many still consider his size and stature to be his greatest shortcoming. He is 6 inches taller than 5 feet and weighs 181 lb. Other details of his body measurements have yet to be confirmed.
Tarik Cohen Parents, Father and Mother
Because of his name Cohen, which is said to be derived from the Hebrew word for “priest,” it once circulated that this guy was of Jewish origin, despite the fact that he was obviously an African American.
For the most part, not much is known about Tarik’s parents. The only name we could associate with him in this respect is Tilwanda Newell, whom we assume to be his mother.
From what we have learned, growing up was difficult for the footballer, he only had his mother and brother. It is said that he was inspired above all by his desire to take care of his mother and give her the comfort she desires. The woman had a hard time taking care of Tarik and his brother. She moved around with her children and searched for better ways to raise them so that they had a good chance to succeed in their efforts.
