Piers Morgan was born on 30 March 1965 in Newick, Sussex, England, as Piers Stefan O’Meara, the son of Gabrielle Georgina Sybille and Vincent Eamonn O’Meara. After the death of his father and the subsequent remarriage of his mother when he was a toddler, Morgan took his stepfather’s surname and began to call himself Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan.
Morgan grew up in Sussex, where he first attended a private school before later changing to a public school for financial reasons. His first school was Cumnor House, but then he moved to Chailey School and later to Priory School. He then enrolled at Harlow College, where he studied journalism.
After graduating from college, Morgan worked as a reporter for newspapers in Surrey and South London. After about a decade he was recruited by The Sun newspaper as a columnist for entertainment/show business columns. His big breakthrough came in 1994 when he was hand-picked by media mogul Rupert Murdoch as editor of News of the World.

Morgan, who became the youngest person to head a national newspaper, only stayed in that position for a year before leaving the newspaper after he filed a complaint against him for violating the editorial code of conduct. He then became editor of The Mirror, a position he held until his release in 2004 when he published false photos of British soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners.
This was immediately followed by a career in television for Morgan when he began hosting political talk shows while giving interviews to celebrities. In 2006 he became a judge on America’s Got Talent and later on Britain’s Got Talent, before joining Celebrity Apprentice.
