Piers Morgan is one of the most popular British media personalities of his generation. He began his career as a writer and editor for several tabloids before becoming a television personality, a talent show judge, and a talk show host.
On the international stage, Morgan is best known as a judge of Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent. He also received much attention for his views on American gun laws during his time at CNN, when he was hired to host Piers Morgan Tonight, a replacement show for Larry King Live after King’s retirement.
Piers Morgan Biography
Piers Morgan was born on 30 March 1965 in Newick, Sussex, England, as Piers Stefan O’Meara, the son of Gabrielle Georgina Sybille and Vincent Eamonn O’Meara. After the death of his father and the subsequent remarriage of his mother when he was a toddler, Morgan took his stepfather’s surname and began to call himself Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan.
Morgan grew up in Sussex, where he first attended a private school before later changing to a public school for financial reasons. His first school was Cumnor House, but then he moved to Chailey School and later to Priory School. He then enrolled at Harlow College, where he studied journalism.
After graduating from college, Morgan worked as a reporter for newspapers in Surrey and South London. After about a decade he was recruited by The Sun newspaper as a columnist for entertainment/show business columns. His big breakthrough came in 1994 when he was hand-picked by media mogul Rupert Murdoch as editor of News of the World.
Morgan, who became the youngest person to head a national newspaper, only stayed in that position for a year before leaving the newspaper after he filed a complaint against him for violating the editorial code of conduct. He then became editor of The Mirror, a position he held until his release in 2004 when he published false photos of British soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners.
This was immediately followed by a career in television for Morgan when he began hosting political talk shows while giving interviews to celebrities. In 2006 he became a judge on America’s Got Talent and later on Britain’s Got Talent, before joining Celebrity Apprentice.
In 2011 he was hired by CNN to replace Larry King’s Timeslot. His show was canceled in 2014 due to poor ratings, which Morgan attributed to his anti-gun stance. In April 2017 Piers Morgan was invited to be a guest presenter of Good Morning Britain on ITV. Later that year, ITV hired him as a permanent co-host of the show.
Piers Morgan’s Net Worth
It is no surprise that Piers Morgan is one of the highest-income media personalities in the UK. It is estimated that the host of the show Good Morning Britain has a net worth of around $20 million.
He earned most of his fortune through his various shows on ITV and other networks and newspapers in a career that spanned nearly three decades.
Piers Morgan is currently in his second marriage. He is married to the British journalist and novelist Celia Morgan (née Walden). The couple began meeting sometime in 2006 before exchanging vows in a private ceremony in Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village, on 24 June 2010.
He was previously married to Marion Shalloe.
Piers Morgan has a total of four children, three sons, and one daughter. He had his first three children with his ex-wife and the last with Celia. They are Spencer William Morgan, born in July 1993, Stanley Christopher Morgan, born in June 1997, Albert Douglas Morgan, born in December 2000, and then Elise Morgan, born in November 2011.
Is Piers Morgan Gay?
As can be seen from his marriage history, Piers Morgan is definitely not gay. However, he has been accused in the past of being sexually attracted to men, especially by Omarosa Manigault-Newman, former White House assistant and candidate for the Celebrity Apprentice position.
According to Morgan, Omarosa accused him of being homosexual after he refused to have sex with her and be involved in a romance on the show. Following the accusations, Morgan said he jokingly kissed country singer Trace Adkins to make her even angrier.
Morgan was last portrayed as gay after he was depicted in a cartoon with his face on President Donald Trump’s butt. The cartoon was published after Piers Morgan became the first international journalist to interview the President.
