Malcolm Washington is a former athlete who gave up sports to build a career in the film industry as a director and producer. If his last name rings a bell, it’s probably not a mistake. Malcolm is the son of notorious Hollywood actor Denzel Washington. Malcolm was born on 10 April 1991 in Los Angeles, California. His parents, who need no introduction, are Denzel Washington and the actress Pauletta Washington. Malcolm has a twin sister named Olivia Washington. Together they are the last of four children of Denzel and Pauletta. His older brother is John David Washington, and his older sister is Katia Washington.
Malcolm had his high school education in a private school in his hometown Los Angeles. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated from the university in 2013, after which he set himself the goal of becoming a filmmaker and director. All members of his family – his parents and siblings – seem to have a love for the arts and entertainment.

His father is a well-known and celebrated actor, director, and producer who has spent most of his career in front of the camera. However, it was his extraordinary work for the short film drama Benny Got Shot that finally brought Malcolm the recognition he deserved. He was the author of the film and also the director. For the 2017 edition of the Atlanta Film Festival (ATLFF), he received the Film-Maker-To-Watch Award for his efforts on Benny Got Shot. In 2018, he also began work as the director of a television series entitled I, Too, Dream America.

Speaking of teammates: Washington may now be a filmmaker who has to prove something and build his career, but he wasn’t always all about movies. At least not during his college years. As a student at the University of Pennsylvania, he played basketball for his school’s team throughout his stay at the University of Pennsylvania. Only after graduation did he decide to change careers.
