Luc Mbah a Moute is a Cameroonian professional basketball player who entered the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2008. Luc currently plays for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association in the United States of America. He also represents his country Cameroon on the international level.

Luc Mbah a Moute Bio

Luc was born in 1986 in Yaounde, Cameroon. As a teenager, he learned to play basketball and soccer in Cameroon. He taught himself to shoot and dribble by throwing balls at a street tire on a lamppost. As a 15-year-old, he then switched to the Cameroonian national youth team. Luc was lucky because he received a scholarship to the Montverde Academy in Florida after he was discovered during the opening game for the first camp of the NBA Basketball without Borders in South Africa.

At first, he found it difficult to make contacts as he could only say a few words in English, but gradually he adapted and soon felt at home in his new surroundings. During his stay in Montverde from 2001 to 2005, he was trained by Kevin Sutton. He learned the American style of basketball and soon felt comfortable on the court.

While he was training during a hot summer, UCLA coach Ben Howland, who was on a recruiting trip, noticed his relentlessness in training, and the next day he was offered a scholarship to UCLA. Luc was very good on defense and always watched his opponent’s best games, and fans soon took him to their hearts after being impressed by his energy and passion. They wore T-shirts with the words “Moute Kicks Boute” and called Luc Mbah a Moute “the Fresh Prince”. Luc ended his career at UCLA with a wonderful finish at number 15 on the rebounder charts with a total of 775 rebounds.

Pro Career

Milwaukee Bucks entered him as the seventh choice in the second round of the 2008 draft, and Luc soon worked his way into the hearts of Bucks fans and soon became a crowd favorite. With only nine games in the season, he overtook Charlie Villanueva as the Bucks’ striker. As a starter in his second game, he recorded a career highlight of 19 points and 17 rebounds in a 101-96 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. His defensive contribution to the Bucks’ game earned him much praise.

Luc Mbah a Moute spent five years with the Bucks as a great wing defender; however, he was transferred to the Sacramento Kings on July 12, 2013, and later to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Derrick William on November 26, 2013.

Luc signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on August 23, 2014, and then switched to the Los Angeles Clippers on September 25, 2015. After two years with the Clippers, Luc signed with the Houston Rockets for the 2017-2018 season.

Mbah a Moute scored the highest points in his NBA career at the Rockets, but he missed a few games when he dislocated his shoulder twice in one season. For the 2018 season, he has returned to the LA Clippers.

Luc Mbah a Moute also helped to discover new talent from Africa, such as the Cameroonian Center, Joel Embiid, and Power Forward, Pascal Siakamd. Luc currently leads the Mbah a Moute basketball summer camps in Cameroon, which prepare young players to represent Cameroon in the NBA Basketball without Borders. He is also actively involved in the Ebola campaign. Luc is very private about his private relationships and there is no information about who he has met or who he is with.

Luc Mbah a Moute Family

Luc Mbah a Moute grew up in Yaounde with his twin brother Emmanuel Bidias a Moute and his younger brother Roger Moute a Bidias. His father, Camille Moute a Bidias, was a local leader and senior government official, as well as Director-General of the National Employment Fund of Cameroon. Luc and his family sometimes lived in their home village of Bia Messe, which is not too far from the city of Yaounde. Luc and his brothers are princes in their native town.

It seems that basketball runs in the family, as his twin brother Emmanuel also plays basketball in the United States for Texas State University. His younger brother, Roge, will not be forgotten as he is also a basketball player for the California Golden Bears.
