Luc Mbah a Moute’s Bio
Luc was born in 1986 in Yaounde, Cameroon. As a teenager, he learned to play basketball and soccer in Cameroon. He taught himself to shoot and dribble by throwing balls at a street tire on a lamppost. As a 15-year-old, he then switched to the Cameroonian national youth team. Luc was lucky because he received a scholarship to the Montverde Academy in Florida after he was discovered during the opening game for the first camp of the NBA Basketball without Borders in South Africa.
At first, he found it difficult to make contacts as he could only say a few words in English, but gradually he adapted and soon felt at home in his new surroundings. During his stay in Montverde from 2001 to 2005, he was trained by Kevin Sutton. He learned the American style of basketball and soon felt comfortable on the court.
While he was training during a hot summer, UCLA coach Ben Howland, who was on a recruiting trip, noticed his relentlessness in training, and the next day he was offered a scholarship to UCLA. Luc was very good on defense and always watched his opponent’s best games, and fans soon took him to their hearts after being impressed by his energy and passion. They wore T-shirts with the words “Moute Kicks Boute” and called Luc Mbah a Moute “the Fresh Prince”. Luc ended his career at UCLA with a wonderful finish at number 15 on the rebounder charts with a total of 775 rebounds.
Milwaukee Bucks entered him as the seventh choice in the second round of the 2008 draft, and Luc soon worked his way into the hearts of Bucks fans and soon became a crowd favorite. With only nine games in the season, he overtook Charlie Villanueva as the Bucks’ striker. As a starter in his second game, he recorded a career highlight of 19 points and 17 rebounds in a 101-96 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. His defensive contribution to the Bucks’ game earned him much praise.
Luc Mbah a Moute spent five years with the Bucks as a great wing defender; however, he was transferred to the Sacramento Kings on July 12, 2013, and later to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Derrick William on November 26, 2013.
Luc signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on August 23, 2014, and then switched to the Los Angeles Clippers on September 25, 2015. After two years with the Clippers, Luc signed with the Houston Rockets for the 2017-2018 season.
Mbah a Moute scored the highest points in his NBA career at the Rockets, but he missed a few games when he dislocated his shoulder twice in one season. For the 2018 season, he has returned to the LA Clippers.
Luc Mbah a Moute also helped to discover new talent from Africa, such as the Cameroonian Center, Joel Embiid, and Power Forward, Pascal Siakamd. Luc currently leads the Mbah a Moute basketball summer camps in Cameroon, which prepare young players to represent Cameroon in the NBA Basketball without Borders. He is also actively involved in the Ebola campaign. Luc is very private about his private relationships and there is no information about who he has met or who he is with.
