Who is Jillian Michaels?

Jillian Michaels was born on February 18, 1974, in Los Angeles, California, as Jillian Leigh McKarus. Her parents divorced when she was quite young. She survived a difficult childhood, struggling with her parent’s divorce, combined with weight problems and problems with self-esteem. However, her life changed at the age of 14 when her mother enrolled her in martial arts classes. She acquired a black belt in martial arts and was able to control her weight. However, she remained a troubled teenager and eventually fell out with her mother.

Michaels had completed her college education at California State University in Northridge, where she began her journey as a professional fitness trainer. She holds personal fitness trainer certifications from the National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association (NESTA), the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and the American Fitness Professionals and Associates (AFPA).

Jillian Michaels worked briefly for International Creative Management (ICM Partners) as a talent representative. In 2002 she founded her own fitness training center Sky Sport & Spa in Beverly Hills, California. For the first two seasons of the series, she was the coach for the red team, after which she left the series. In February 2007, Jillian Michaels returned for the fourth season of the series, and her second season lasted until May 2011, when she returned to the show in March 2014 after a 2-season absence. She has successfully built a health and fitness empire by writing numerous bestselling books and has also produced several DVDs on various aspects of the subject. She has also released two video games by Jillian Michaels, Fitness Ultimatum 2009 and Fitness Ultimatum 2010, and a fitness mobile application.

A marriage could be in Jillian Michaels’ plans in the near future. However, the fitness guru has come very close to a marriage. She was in a long-standing relationship with the professional yoga teacher Heidi Rhoades. Michaels and Rhoades have two children together, who lived in a farmhouse on the outskirts of Malibu.

In May 2012 the couple adopted their first child, daughter Lukensia Michaels Rhoades (born 2010). In the same month, Rhoades gave birth to their second child, a son named Phoenix Michaels Rhoades, who was born on May 3, 2012.
