Evgeny Kuznetsov’s Bio
Kuznetsov, who was born on 19 May 1992 in Chelyabinsk, Russia, performed 35 times in his debut season for his first club Traktor Chelyabinsk. At the end of his debut season, he scored 8 points and finished third on the list of the best European figure skaters compiled by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau in preparation for the NHL’s 2010 entry draft. During the draft, Evgeny was a first-round candidate of the Washington Capitals.
In the 2011-2012 season, Kuznetsov won the Continental Cup and a bronze medal with the tractors. Kuznetsov’s commitment to his team until the end of the 2011-2012 season earned him a place in the KHL All-Star Game. He played most of the 2013-2014 season for Traktor Chelyabinsk.
On March 8, 2014, he was brought on board by the capitals of Washington with the signing of an entry contract. He started with a flyer and scored his first – albeit short-lived – goal against the Los Angeles Kings. This goal proved to be vital for the capitals as it was scored in the last minute of the game, effectively preventing defeat in regular play. However, they lost the game on penalties.
During the Stanley Cup play-off, Kuznetsov scored two goals in a row and scored an assist against the New York Islanders, who eventually won 5-1. He continued to prove crucial to the team when he scored the winning goal in the Eastern Conference quarter-final against the New York Islanders.
The Russian player was lucky in the next campaign – Alexander Ovechkin retired due to injury and Kuznetsov was called up to replace him for the NHL All-Star game.
In the 2017-2018 season, Evgeny showed another impressive performance for the capitals as he scored a crucial goal in extra time to defeat two-time defending champions Pittsburgh Penguins, who were on their way to defeating Tampa Bay Lightning in the final.
Evgeny Kuznetsov’s first assignment for a Russian team came when he represented the country’s youth team at the 2010 Junior Ice Hockey World Championship in Canada. During the preliminary round match against Austria, he was voted “Man of the Match” due to his two-goal contribution.
He was also involved in the 2011 edition of the competition with four goals and seven assists in seven missions. In the match for the gold medal against Canada, he also provided three assists, with which he gave Russia a 5-3 victory. For his contributions, he was rewarded with a place on the All-Star Team of the competition.
