Who is Evan Spiegel?
Evan Thomas Spiegel was born on June 4, 1990, in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in L.A.’s coastal district Pacific Palisades. His father, John W. Spiegel, and his mother, Melissa Ann Thomas, are both lawyers. He has two sisters, Lauren and Caroline Spiegel. He grew up in the Episcopal Church and received his high school education at the Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences in Santa Monica, LA County. While still in high school, he took design courses at Otis College of Art and Design, and after graduation, he studied briefly at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena before going on to college.
Spiegel received his college education at Stanford University, where he specialized in product design. As a student, he had the idea to develop an application for ephemeral messages as part of a course project on product design. His classmates found the idea really ridiculous, and they laughed at first. However, Spiegel set to work on the concept with two other classmates – Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown – and together they launched the prototype of the “Picaboo” app in July 2011. Picaboo was finally relaunched on September 16, 2011, under the name “Snapchat”, and by that time Reggie Brown had already been ousted from the company.

The popularity of the Snapchat app grew by leaps and bounds, and in 2012 Evan Spiegel left college to concentrate on its development. After nearly 6 years, Spiegel returned to Stanford to graduate college in 2018.

Snapchat Inc. went public in March 2017, making Evan Spiegel one of the youngest CEOs of a publicly-traded company in the world. Evan Spiegel is very strongly married, and his wife is none other than Australian-born supermodel Miranda Kerr. In addition to her illustrious modeling career, Kerr is also a beauty entrepreneur who launched her own skincare brand “KORA Organics” in 2009.
This beautiful couple got engaged in July 2016, and just over a year later they were married on May 27, 2017, in a private ceremony in Los Angeles. Interestingly, the wife of Spiegel revealed that the billionaire adheres to the conventional practice of “sexual abstinence before marriage”.
