Emily Irene VanCamp was born on May 12, 1986, in Port Perry, Ontario, Canada. Her parents are Cindy and Robert VanCamp, and she grew up with 3 siblings, an older sister Katie and younger sisters Alison and Molly. She began studying dance at the age of three with the goal of becoming a professional dancer. She was accepted at the École supérieure de ballet du Québec, the training program of the ballet company Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal.

VanCamp’s interest in acting was awakened in 1998 when she visited her sister Katie on the set of a film. She then began taking acting lessons and also hired a talent agent. After appearing in a series of television commercials, she made her professional acting debut in season 7 of the fantasy series Are You Afraid of the Dark? (2000). This was followed by a role in the Emmy-nominated telefilm Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis (2000) and a guest role in the sitcom Radio Active (2000). VanCamp made her screen debut in the drama film Lost and Delirious (2001), followed by supporting roles in the horror series All Souls (2001) and the Telefilm Redeemer (2002).

Emily VanCamp received her groundbreaking role at the age of 15 when she was cast as regular Sam Dolan in the horror series Glory Days (2002). The series was very short-lived, but since it was canceled after only 9 episodes, VanCamp had the opportunity to prove its worth. Her appearance on Glory Days caught the attention of prolific writer and filmmaker Greg Berlanti, who gave her a spot in the main cast of his upcoming show Everwood. Van Camp’s starring role as Amy Abbott during Everwood’s 4-year course (2002-06) earned her much acclaim, including 4 nominations for the Teen Choice Award and 1 nomination for the Young Artist Award. While working on Everwood, she had time to star in films such as A Different Loyalty (2004), Rings (2005), and The Ring Two (2005).

Emily VanCamp got her next major television role in the ABC drama series Brothers & Sisters (2007-10) starring Rebecca Harper. During her five-year career in the series, the talented actress also starred in the film Black Irish (2007) and the independent film Norman (2010), for which she was awarded Best Actress at the San Diego Film Festival and the Breckenridge Festival of Film. VanCamp received another important television role in 2011 when she was cast as Emily Thorne/ Amanda Clarke in the ABC series Revenge (2011-15). For her performance on the show, she was nominated for 2 Teen Choice Awards and a People’s Choice Award.

While her television career continued to flourish, VanCamp was given her biggest movie role to date in the superhero movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) starring Sharon Carter/Agent 13. The talented actress also resumed her role in the sequel to the movie Captain America: Civil War (2016). She has also starred in other films such as The Girl in the Book (2015) and Borders (2016). In March 2017 VanCamp was cast as the female lead in the medical drama series The Resident, in which she appeared as Nurse Nic Nevin. The first season debuted in January 2018, and after its completion in May 2018, the series was extended for a second season.
