The actress was born on March 6, 1981, under the maiden name Ellen Anna Muth in Milford, Connecticut, the U.S.A. as the daughter of the parents Erick Muth and Rachel Muth. The actress has not divulged details of her early life, but she is said to have attended the Skip Barber Racing School and to further the acting career she enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. After graduating she got her first commercial jobs around 1993, but in 1995 she started her first leading role in the movie Dolores Claiborne, which also earned her a role in the Law & Order sitcom. Her role as Constance in the 1999 film The Young Girl and the Monsoon was also a highly acclaimed film that even received a review in the New York Times by film critic Stephen Holden, who praised Ellen Muth for her brilliant portrayal of Constance, the 13-year-old child of a divorced couple.
