His mother took him to the Bronx to live with his grandparents, who were immigrants from Corleone, Sicily. A place that would later determine the life of Al Pacino.
Al Pacino, who had a passion for acting, was accepted after an audition at the High School of Performing Arts. He tried to finance his acting training by taking jobs as a messenger, busboy, or janitor, but eventually had to quit. However, he continued his acting career by performing in basement theaters in the New York theater underground. The actor then moved to the Herbert Berghof Studio (HB Studio), where he met acting teacher Charlie Laughton.
In 1962 his mother died at the age of 43, and the following year his grandfather Gerardi also died. Al Pacino said that this was the lowest point in his life, as he lost the two most influential people in his life.

The talented actor made his film debut with a short performance in Me, Natalie. His theatrical appearances attracted the attention of director Francis Ford Coppola, who, despite protests and shock from the studio owners, chose Pacino to play Michael Corleone in the film that would become a blockbuster and icon of The Godfather. His performance earned him an Oscar nomination.
Al Pacino was to continue to be nominated for his performance in Serpico and the sequel to The Godfather. Over the years, his work in various films brought him further success and gained in popularity and fame. Unfortunately, his film career took a sad low in the early ’80s, but his appearance in Scarface (1983) proved to be a career highlight and a formative role.
